Pasangan beregu profesional negara, Chan Peng Soon dan Goh Liu Ying, sedia mengharungi satu lagi perang psikologi di peringkat separuh akhir Masters Malaysia esok apabila bakal bertemu bekas jurulatih kebangsaan, Jeremy Gan, yang kini membimbing pilihan pertama kejohanan, Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino.
Pertemuan yang cukup sengit disajikan Peng Soon dan Liu Ying menentang bekas rakan sepasukan, Shevon Lai Jemie dan Goh Soon Huat, yang juga pilihan kelima kejohanan, dalam suku akhir hari ini.
Bagaimanapun, keputusan perlawanan memihak kepada beregu profesional itu dengan kemenangan 22-20, 22-20.
Lawan mereka dalam separuh akhir merupakan pilihan pertama, Watanabe-Higashino, yang bakal menjadi perlawanan kesembilan dalam tempoh dua minggu buat Peng Soon-Liu Ying, namun mereka masih kental mengharungi perlawanan yang menguji mental dan fizikal esok.
"Kami saling mengenali corak permainan masing-masing dan kami saling menunggu siapa yang bakal melakukan kesilapan terlebih dahulu," kata Liu Ying.
Sementara itu, beregu lelaki negara, Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin, mempamer aksi memukau apabila mencipta kejutan menyingkirkan gandingan nombor tiga dunia, Keigo Sonoda-Takeshi Kamura dari Jepun, dengan kemenangan straight set 21-19, 21-16.
Kemenangan itu juga melakar satu sejarah untuk mereka apabila buat kali pertama berjaya mara ke peringkat separuh akhir dalam siri Jelajah Dunia Super Persekutuan Badminton Dunia (BWF).
"Kami sangat gembira kerana mara ke separuh akhir. Ia adalah permulaan yang baik buat kami menghadapi musim 2019," kata Ee Yi.
