Belum lagi dapat turun ke gelanggang kompetitif, pemain badminton perseorangan lelaki nombor satu negara, Lee Zii Jia, menerima kejutan menjelang Final Jelajah Dunia Persekutuan Badminton Dunia (BWF) di Bangkok, Thailand, Januari ini.
Ia selepas kedudukannya kini dalam bahaya berdasarkan ranking kelayakan terkini ke kejohanan itu.
Untuk layak ke jelajah akhir itu, dia perlu berada di kedudukan lapan teratas dan berdasarkan kemas kini terbaru, Zii Jia kini berada di tangga ke-10 -- tergelincir dua anak tangga berbanding kelapan sebelum ini.
Keadaan itu menyaksikan pemain berkenaan, yang layak ke separuh akhir Kejohanan Seluruh England 2020, perlu bekerja keras dalam dua kejohanan terbuka di Thailand bagi mengesahkan tempatnya.
"Saya agak terkejut apabila mengetahui saya sudah ketinggalan selepas tidak menyertai Terbuka Denmark.
"Ia nampak agak susah sedikit kerana jika saya mahu layak, saya perlu ke suku akhir dalam kedua-dua kejohanan terakhir ini.
"Jika tidak, saya memang tidak berpeluang," katanya.
Mengenai peluangnya untuk memperoleh keputusan terbaik dalam dua kejohanan di Thailand itu, Zii Jia menambah: "Sudah lama tiada kejohanan, jadi saya rasa semua pemain juga begitu, semua pemain mahu menang.
"Saya fikir tekanan itu akan berkurangan kerana semua pemain sudah lama tidak beraksi, jadi sasarannya kini adalah untuk memberikan saingan," tambahnya.
