Selepas penantian mendebarkan, Persekutuan Badminton Dunia (BWF) mengesahkan penyertaan Datuk Lee Chong Wei ke Kejohanan Badminton Siri Super Final di Dubai, 14-18 Disember ini.
Chong Wei dan kem negara sebelum ini resah dengan kemungkinan perseorangan negara berkenaan tidak layak beraksi di kejohanan itu
Ini selepas Chong Wei menarik diri daripada tiga kejohanan bertaraf Siri Super termasuk di China dan Hong Kong apabila juara edisi terdahulu itu mengalami kecederaan.
Kemas kini ranking Siri Super menyaksikan Chong Wei berada di tangga ketujuh, dengan Chen Long selaku juara Sukan Olimpik Rio memperoleh 'wilcard'.
Pengarah Teknikal Persatuan Badminton Malaysia (BAM), Morten Frost, bagaimanapun, bersikap realistik berbicara soal kecergasan Chong Wei untuk mencabar kejuaraan di Dubai.
"Saya pasti dia akan bermain, tetapi anda betul, dia memiliki kecederaan sejak Oktober dan dia tidak berada dalam keadaan baik minggu lalu juga. Jadi, ia bukan masa yang bagus untuk buat persediaan. Kita akan lihat nanti, masih ada masa yang baik.
"Dia berjaya menjadi pemain nombor satu dunia. Saya fikir dia benar-benar faham apa maksud pencapaian ini. Saya tidak fikir orang tidak akan faham, dia bermula dari awal sekali lagi untuk menjadi pemain nombor satu dunia dalam masa setahun. Itu benar-benar pencapaian yang menakjubkan," kata Frost.
Turut mengesahkan kelayakan ke kejohanan itu adalah beregu utama negara, Tan Wee Kiong dan Goh v Shem.
Namun, beregu wanita negara, Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei, dan beregu campuran, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, terkeluar daripada senarai lapan terbaik susulan prestai hambar pasca Olimpik Rio.
