Perseorangan lelaki profesional negara, Lee Zii Jia, mengotakan janjinya untuk bergelar juara Asia selepas mengungguli Kejohanan Badminton Asia (BAC) di Manila, Filipina sebentar tadi.
Turun selaku pemain pilihan ketiga, Zii Jia tidak berdepan masalah untuk menumbangkan wakil Indonesia dan pilihan keempat kejohanan itu, Jonatan Christie.
Hanya 45 minit diperlukan perseorangan utama negara itu untuk mencatatkan kemenangan 21-17, 21-13, sekali gus menamatkan penantian enam tahun Malaysia untuk bergelar juara dalam acara itu.
Dalam pada itu, beregu lelaki nombor satu negara, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, bergelar naib juara selepas tewas kepada gandingan Indonesia.
Beregu pilihan kelima itu tewas 21-23, 10-21 kepada lawan bukan pilihan, Pramudya Kusumuwardana-Yeremia Rambitan, dalam masa kurang setengah jam.
Seterusnya skuad badminton negara akan beraksi dalam Kejohanan Piala Thomas dan Uber di Bangkok, Thailand bermula minggu depan.
