Kemenangan 3-0 yang diraih di Glasgow minggu lalu jelas menyelamatkan pasukan Scotland itu untuk meneruskan kemaraan dengan kelebihan agregat 4-2.
Tuan rumah, Red Star, berada di depan seawal minit ke-10 menerusi penyudah Mirko Ivanic dan sentiasa memberikan ancaman buat kubu Rangers.
Bagaimanapun, hasrat kebangkitan Red Star mula musnah pada minit ke-56 apabila Ryan Kent tidak mengendahkan kecederaan yang dialami Cristiano Piccini untuk meluru ke kawasan lawan sebelum melepaskan percubaan yang terbias ke dalam gawang tuan rumah.
Penjaga gol, Allan McGregor, layak diberikan pujian seleas beberapa kali melakukan aksi menyelamat gemilang di depan pintu gol Rangers, yang mara ke suku akhir kejohanan Eropah buat kali pertama sejak tewas kepada Zenit dalam final Piala UEFA musim 2007-08.
Gol sepakan penalti El Fardou Ben Nabouhane dalam waktu kecederaan memberikan Red Star kemenangan tetapi tiada apa untuk diraikan mereka selepas tersingkir secara agregat.
