Menjelang aksi kelayakan Piala Dunia 2022 dan Piala Asia 2023 Mac depan, Safawi Rasid berharap dapat kembali berkumpul bersama rakan sepasukan dan ketua jurulatih Harimau Malaya, Tan Cheng Hoe akhir tahun ini.
Menerusi temubualnya bersama wartawan Nadi Arena, Syakirah Zulkifly, pemain berusia 23 tahun itu turut berkongsi respon positif pengendali kelab Portimonense, Paulo Sergio tentang perkembangan prestasinya.
Sebelum ini, Cheng Hoe menjelaskan bahawa dia meletakkan harapan kepada lima pemain yang berpangkalan di luar negara sebagai tunjang utama skuad Harimau Malaya dalam aksi pertemuan menentang Emeriah Arab Bersatu dan Vietnam Mac tahun depan.
Ia susulan lima pemain termasuk Safawi dan Luqman Hakim Shamsudin, Muhamadou Sumareh, Dominic Tan serta Shahrul Idlan Talaha berada dalam tahap yang terbaik.
"Saya berasakan bulan depan perlu adalah panggilan bersama skuad kebangsaan dan berharap pihak Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) membenarkan kami kembali berkumpul," kata Safawi.
"Semua pemain perlu berada di tahap terbaik dan dalam situasi ini, saya berharap rakan sepasukan lain masih lagi mengekalkan tahap kecergasan bagi memastikan sentaisa bersedia untuk beraksi."
Selepas dua bulan berpangkalan di bumi Portugal, Safawi kini lebih selesa bersama skuad Portimonense apatah lagi meraih komen positif daripada ketua jurulatihnya.
Tambah Safawi, satu perkara berharga dapat dipelajari daripada rakan sepasukan adalah disiplin mereka yang sangat tinggi.
"Jurulatih sentiasa memberikan ulasan yang positif selepas sesi latihan, saya sangat gembira dan ia meningkatkan keyakinan saya bersama pasukan," kata Safawi.
