Bekas penyerang Barcelona, Javier Saviola, percaya Andres Iniesta dan Xavi sepatutnya dianugerahkan Ballon d'Or, namun tidak bernasib baik kerana bermain di dalam era Cristiano Ronaldo dan Lionel Messi.
Saviola menyertai Barcelona selaku pemain berusia 19 tahun pada tahun 2001 sebelum menghabiskan enam musim di Nou Camp.
Ketika itu, dia sempat beraksi bersama Iniesta dan Xavi sebelum kedua-dua pemain tersebut menjadi tonggak utama Barcelona di bawah kendalian Pep Guardiola di samping membantu Sepanyol menjadi juara dunia dan Eropah sekitar tahun 2008 hingga 2012.
Bagaimanapun, kedua-dua pemain tersebut tidak pernah dianugerahkan Ballon d'Or, sekaligus mengecewakan Saviola.
"Iniesta pemain yang mengagumkan," Saviola memberitahu Omnisport.
"Dia memiliki sentuhan yang mampu mengujakan sesiapa pun yang melihat.
"Ia akan menjadi saat yang menggembirakan jika dapat melihat Iniesta atau Xavi dianugerahkan Ballon d'Or.
"Namun, era ini hanya memperlihatkan perebutan di antara Cristiano dan Messi. Walaupun Iniesta dan Xavi mempamerkan aksi mantap, mereka akan diketepikan kerana ini adalah era Ronaldo dan Messi."
