Pep Guardiola belum mempunyai rancangan untuk merehatkan Raheem Sterling yang ketika ini berada di tahap terbaik ketika penyerang itu bersiap sedia untuk menentang bekas kelabnya, Liverpool.
Sterling kadang-kadang telah digunakan sebagai penyerang tengah pada permulaan musim 2020-21 kerana kecederaan dialami penyerang, Sergio Aguero dan Gabriel Jesus, walaupun mereka kini telah kembali cergas.
Pemain antarabangsa England itu telah menjaringkan lima gol dalam semua pertandingan tetapi telah bergelut untuk menembusi Liverpool sejak meninggalkan Anfield.
Penantiannya untuk menjaringkan gol liga menentang mereka akhirnya berakhir ketika menang 4-0 di Stadium Etihad Julai lalu, namun ketika itu The Reds telah pun bergelar juara Liga Perdana Inggeris (EPL).
Guardiola memuji perkembangan pemain berusia 25 tahun itu tetapi berasakan lebih lagi dapat dipamerkan oleh Sterling dan berasakan perwatakannya merupakan kunci dia terus berkembang bersama City.
"Saya fikir dia pemain yang lebih baik daripada ketika saya tiba dan semoga dalam masa empat tahun, dia akan lebih baik daripada dia sekarang," kata Guardiola,
"Saya fikir dia pemain yang luar biasa. Akan ada saat di mana dia akan berehat, tetapi pada masa ini dia adalah pemain yang sangat penting bagi kami.
"Saya telah melihat mental dan keinginannya dan dia telah bertambah baik sejak kami tiba, tetapi saya berharap dalam tiga, empat dari lima tahun dia akan menjadi pemain yang jauh lebih baik daripada dia sekarang."
