Atlet Algeria, Fethi Nourine, digantung oleh Persekutuan Judo Antarabangsa (IJF) dan diarahkan untuk meninggalkan Tokyo selepas bertindak menarik diri daripada Sukan Olimpik kerana berpotensi bertemu pesaing daripada Israel.
Nourine, 30, sepatutnya akan bertemu atlet Sudan, Mohamed Abdalrasool, dalam acara 73 kilogram Isnin ini dan berpotesi untuk bertemu atlet Israel, Tohar Butbul, dalam pusingan berikutnya.
Bercakap kepada media Algeria sebelum penggantungannya diumumkan, Nourine berkata dia enggan "mengotorkan tangannya" dan rela menarik diri daripada Sukan Olimpik 2020 demi memberikan sokongan sepenuhnya buat Palestin.
Nourine juga pernah menarik diri daripada Kejohanan Dunia 2019 apabila dijadualkan bertemu Butbul dan dia kini akan dihantar pulang selepas enggan bersaing dalam Sukan Olimpik kerana alasan sama.
IJF berkata Nourine dan jurulatihnya, Amar Bekhlef, kedua-duanya digantung sementara dengan satu jawatankuasa disiplin akan menyiasat terperinci kes berkenaan untuk menentukan hukuman lanjut.
