The Sepak Takraw League (STL) has welcomed Idemitsu Malaysia as an Official Lubricant Oil sponsor for the 2020 season.

The largest lubricant oil company in Japan was also announced on Tuesday as the the sponsor of ATM Guardians, who finished as runners-up behind the Perak Bison in the 2019 Premier season.

"We are pleased that Idemitsu Malaysia has chosen sepak takraw as its first sponsorship outside motorsports.

"We applaud Idemitsu for recognising the potential of sepak takraw and stepping forward to develop this sport. We hope this will spur more brands to support local sports," said Lee Choong Khay, Astro's Head of Sports.

According to Shin Obata, Managing Director of Idemitsu Malaysia, the STL's potential to grow its fanbase in Southeast Asia and even globally was a key reason behind the sponsorship.

"Idemitsu is committed to further grow the love for sepak takraw and strengthen our brand presence in the local and international markets.

"Idemitsu is proud to sponsor ATM Guardian team this season in a tribute to ATM’s role in protecting the nation. This is in line with our aspiration as a lubricant oil company to protect your car’s engine," he said.

Through this partnership, STL fans can look out for promo codes on STL’s social platforms throughout the 2020 season to enjoy exclusive discounts and gifts from Idemitsu.

The current season began with the STL Division 1 last week, which saw the Bomba Fighters and the Putrajaya Cyborg secure promotion to next season's top division and qualify for the year-end Champions Cup.

The top division kicks off this Friday at the Titiwangsa Stadium with defending champions Perak Bison facing the Selangor Pistons in a Charity Cup match, live on Astro Arena, Astro GO and StadiumAstro.com.
