ONE: MARK OF GREATNESS signaled the close of an exciting year of action for The Home Of Martial Arts.

Last Friday, 6 December, Malaysian heroes and an assortment of international martial arts stars converged upon the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur to kick off ONE Championship’s final event of 2019.

The stacked card produced some truly extraordinary performances, which included breathtaking finishes, sublime striking battles, and exquisite displays of technique.

To cap off an unforgettable 2019, we review the three top moments from ONE: MARK OF GREATNESS.

Sam-A Wins Second ONE Super Series World Championship

Muay Thai legend Sam-A Gaiyanghadao is a World Champion once again.

In a remarkable display of power and precision, the Thai native defeated Chinese sensation “Golden Boy” Wang Junguang to capture the inaugural ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title.

After an early series of high tempo striking exchanges, Sam-A soon settled into a rhythm and began to find a home for his sharp left hand.

His well-timed jabs pierced Wang’s guard and kept the Enfusion World Champion on the backfoot.

Increasingly comfortable as the rounds wore on, Sam-A added punishing leg kicks to his already devastating striking arsenal. A beautiful low kick to the calf spun the Chinese athlete and forced him down to the canvas.

Although “Golden Boy” responded with several big shots of his own, it was mostly the Thai’s speed and accurate counterpunching that shined throughout their five-round war.

The judges unanimously declared Sam-A the winner. As a former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, this latest victory made him the first two-sport, two-division ONE World Champion.

Reece McLaren Strikes With Lightning-Quick Victory

Reece “Lightning” McLaren made quick work of his opponent Gurdarshan “Saint Lion” Mangat and sent the number-one pound-for-pound Indian martial artist home with a quick first-round submission.

As soon as the bell sounded, McLaren quickly got Mangat down onto the canvas. Using his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, “Lightning” began to apply tremendous pressure from the half guard.

He soon moved to side control and followed through into full mount, where he proceeded to unleash a furious assault of ground punches and elbows.

“Saint Lion” did his best to defend, but as he tried to wriggle free, he exposed his back. The Australian pounced to lock in the rear-naked choke, and within seconds, he forced the crucial tap.

Andrei Stoica Finishes Anderson Silva With Amazing KO

Andrei “Mister KO” Stoica lived up to his moniker with a stunning knockout of Anderson “Braddock” Silva.

The Romanian light heavyweight started the match with caution as he opted to counter the menacing threat of Silva with hard low kicks.

Then, he opened up and started to work in a heavy jab, which slowly found its way through Silva’s guard.

“Mister KO” persisted with his shot selection and was rewarded when a huge left hook connected flush with Silva’s head in the early moments of the opening round.

Stoica put an exclamation point on the match with a strong right hand just as his Brazilian rival backed up against the fence.

Although Silva was able to recover, he was on wobbly legs, which forced referee Atsushi Onari to wave off the match after just 117 seconds, awarding “Mister KO” his second consecutive ONE Super Series victory.
