Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Subahan Kamal said "it will be for the best" if Hamidin Amin becomes the new president unopposed.

The current FAM secretary-general, who received nominations from 18 out of 20 FAM affiliates, is the favourite for the hot-seat, which was left vacated by Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim in March.

However, he could be facing competition from former Kelantan Football Association president Annuar Musa and National Sports Institute (ISN) chairman Abdul Azim Zabidi, who were nominated by Kuala Lumpur Football Association and Pahang Football Association respectively.

However, as revealed by acting president Yusoff Mahadi, only Hamidin submitted his nomination form to date before the June 14 deadline.

Subahan, who will be stepping down as Football Association of Selangor president for Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on July 3, commented that stability is key especially after Malaysia's recent general election.

Most football teams in Malaysia rely heavily on support from their respective state governments.

"Personally, I feel, if possible, there should be no contest for the FAM presidency," he said during the FAM's breaking of fast with the media on Sunday.

"From what we can see, many states have been or will be going through changes and the important thing right now is that they focus on their states first.

"Let's give [the role] to an old-timer like Datuk Hamidin, who has been involved in football not one or two years, but many, many years.

"I feel the FAM needs someone with experience and who is open to discussion and negotiation with other state teams.

"In light of the current situation, the best thing right now is the two candidates do not contest and let Hamidin lead the FAM.

"If Hamidin cannot carry out the job, we will do another election, but right now, my opinion, which I believe is also shared by other FAM exco members, is it will be for the best if the two candidates do not submit their nomination forms and let Hamidin be announced as the new FAM president."
