Former Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) head coach Mario Gomez has agreed to be Persib Bandung's new boss for the upcoming 2018 season.

The appointment of the Argentine, who surprisingly parted ways with the Southern Tigers before the 2017 season kicked off, was confirmed by the Liga 1 side on Tuesday.

The 60-year-old replaced Emral Abus, who took over from Djadjang Nurdjaman in September following the 2014 champions' poor run of form in the league but failed to turn their season around.

After finishing 13th in the 18-team league, just six points above the relegation zone, Persib will be looking forward to Gomez replicating his success in Malaysian football.

During his one-and-a-half-year stint in Malaysia, Gomez guided JDT to two Malaysian Super League titles, one FA Cup, and the historic AFC Cup glory in 2015.

He also led the Johor side to finish the 2016 league season unbeaten, becoming the first Malaysian team to do so.

Prior to taking up the Persib offer, he was supposed to coach the Malaysia national team before negotiations broke down, and touted as a potential replacement for Nidzam Adzha Yusoff at Kedah.
