Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have agreed to sign La'Vere Corbin-Ong from Go Ahead Eagles.

The transfer of the half-Malaysian defender, who joined the Dutch side from FSV Frankfurt on a free transfer last summer, was confirmed by both clubs on Thursday night.

"He will move to Malaysia at the end of December, when [JDT's] preparation for the new season starts," said Eagles director of football Dennis Bekking.

"In the meantime, La'Vere, as a professional that he is, will remain focus completely on the game against Fortuna Sittard [on Friday] and the subsequent matches."

The 26-year-old was born in England to a Barbadian father and a Malaysian mother and raised in Canada, making him eligible to play internationally for any of the four different countries.

According to the Southern Tigers, Corbin-Ong will be naturalised as a Malaysian player despite having already played an international friendly match for Canada against Scotland in March, which is allowed to be done by FIFA.

It will not be the first time a player switched his nationality after playing for a different country.

Diego Costa and Thiago Motta represented Brazil but went on to play for Spain and Italy respectively, while Jermaine Jones is now turning out for the United States after initially playing for Germany.
