Harry Kane insists England do not have a discipline issue and expects Harry Maguire to bounce back after the defender's red card against Denmark.

Having endured a difficult time on and off the field in recent months, Maguire was dismissed in the first half of the 1-0 Nations League loss after twice seeing yellow for lunging challenges.

England's 10 men fell behind not long after the centre-back's departure, a dubious penalty allowing Christian Eriksen to score what proved to be the only goal of the contest.

Debutant Reece James was also sent off after the final whistle at Wembley Stadium, becoming the first England debutant to suffer the ignominy as he was punished for dissent.

It means England have received three red cards in a single calendar year for the first time in 2020, but captain Kane dismissed any suggestion of an underlying problem within the camp.

"I don't think we've got a discipline issue," the Tottenham striker told Sky Sports. "It was a night where we put everything on the line.

"I can't fault the boys in that aspect. It's a team where we've worked very hard to get the fans on our side. It's down to us to keep doing that on and off the pitch, being professional and being role models.

"The fight we showed after the sending off was a great thing to be a part of."

Maguire had missed the previous meeting with Denmark after being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery at a misdemeanours court on the Greek island of Syros. He was granted an appeal - meaning the court's initial verdict was nullified - and is awaiting a full retrial.

The 27-year-old has struggled at the start of the new Premier League season with Manchester United, who lost 6-1 at home to Tottenham before the international break.

Kane, who scored twice in Spurs' stunning rout of the Red Devils at Old Trafford, was quick to offer support to his international team-mate.

"There are a couple of challenges, of course, he'd like to have back," he said of Maguire's two bookings.

"But it's all part of the learning curve and experience at international level. Obviously he'll be disappointed, but he will bounce back. He's had a great three or four years at the top level.

"Football is all about working hard and I'm sure that's what he'll do."
