Primeira Liga outfit Maritimo have confirmed that Brunei prince Faiq Jefri Bolkiah has officially joined the club.

The nephew of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah previously spent his youth career in England, turning out for the likes of Leicester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

"I am very pleased to be here and to have made this decision. I'm sure this is the right club for me and my career.

"My goals are to always give the best of myself in each training and in each game, to evolve and help the team in whatever is necessary," he was quoted saying by O Jogo after signing his contract with the club on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old midfielder has represented Brunei at various age levels including the senior team.

He is set to be joined by a fellow Southeast Asian in Portugal as Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) Safawi Rasid has reportedly been in talks with Portimonense.
