Watford duo Tom Cleverley and Ben Foster sang the praises of Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, naming him the best Premier League player they had ever seen.

During a segment of the Squeaky Bum Time podcast Adam Carruthers, the pair, who previously played with the 11-time league winner at Old Trafford, recalled the experience of training and playing with him.

"He was just two or three steps ahead of everything and never misplaced a pass," said Cleverley.

"He would mentally torture you in the middle of the park. You'd think you were closing him down but he would zip it around the corner.

"He was also one of the best strikers of the football I have seen and will ever see. He tortured me a few times in training and he was the master to learn from."

Foster echoed the same sentiment: "He was effortless and everything came to him so naturally.

"If you saw him strike the ball, he did not miss any part of the ball; it was full 100% contact with the ball.

"He was a beautiful player to watch [and] anybody who ever played with him knows what a special player he was."
