After only two days of training together, national divers Leong Mun Yee and Nur Dhabitah Sabri pulled off an amazing performance to bag a bronze medal in the women's 10-metre synchronised platform event at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games on Tuesday.
Leong, who won her third overall Asian Games medal, said she did not expect Nur Dhabitah and herself to maintain such consistent dives with so little practice together.
"I am quite happy with our performance because we managed to maintain that consistency even though we were paired at the last minute,” she said when met by Malaysian journalists at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Centre.
Nur Dhabitah was chosen to partner with Leong after Pandelela Rinong had to withdraw following an injury she suffered during training on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Nur Dhabitah admitted that she had made some minor mistakes and thanked the support from Leong, which helped her get her first Asian Games medal.
"From all the dives, there were some which were slightly less good, and some which were good and overall, I was satisfied.
"I thank Mun Yee because she is a great senior. This is my first Asian Games medal, so I'm definitely happy with the result," said the 19-year-old.
During the event, the duo scored 310.80 points from six dives, which placed them in third place out of eight finalists.
The gold medal was won by Chinese pair Zhang Minjie-Zhang Jiaqi after collecting 361.38 points, while the silver went to Kim Kuk Hyang-Kim Mi Rae of North Korea who finished with 337.86 points.
