Three Malaysian pairs checked into semi-finals of the Toyota Thailand Open on Friday, but it could have been five if not for late lapses at the crucial stages.

The men's doubles saw Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik put on classy attacking display to dish out a satisfying 21-16, 21-13 triumph over Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong after losing to the independent pair in the first round last week.

Chia said the pair made sure they fixed the mistakes from last week to progress and set up a showdown against Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Sheety.

The Indian pair prevented an all-Malaysian clash after a steely performance to down Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi 21-18, 24-22.

In the mixed doubles, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See put on a scintillating performance to dump out sixth seeds Hafiz Faizal-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja 12-21, 21-19, 21-19 in a 68-minute victory.

Their reward is a date against South Koreans Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yujung for a place in the final.

It was the end of the road for fifth seeds Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, who once against crashed out in the last eight with a 21-18, 22-24, 20-22 loss to the in-form Satwiksairaj and Ashwini Ponnappa.

The 2016 Olympics runners-up should be rueing this loss after they held match point opportunities in the second game, having won the first.

Goh summed up their performance by saying : “There were some crucial points we couldn’t quite get, and we struggled on court today.”

The all-Malaysian women’s doubles clash between Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean and Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah favoured the former, who were sharper against their exhausted team-mates who were stretched in three games in their previous encounters.

Lee said she and Chow were prepared for their juniors, after playing them on countless occasions in training sessions.

The pair would take on South Koreans Kim So Yeong-Kong Hee Yong in the semis.

Despite the defeat, Tan-Thinaah can leave with their heads held high having made two quarter-finals appearances.

Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen lost to third seeds Lee Soo-hee-Shin Seung-chan 13-21, 16-21.

Men's singles shuttler Liew Daren also crashed out with a 16-21, 15-21 loss to last week's champion Viktor Axelsen.
