Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Norza Zakaria was less than impressed by Malaysian women's doubles players at the 2018 Uber Cup in Bangkok, Thailand.

The national body set a target of reaching the quarter-finals for the women's team, but they crashed out in the group stage for the third consecutive time since 2014.

In six Group D matches involving the doubles players, five different pairs were used and their only two wins came in a dead-rubber encounter against France.

Despite his disappointment, the BAM president was proud of the singles players especially Soniia Cheah and Goh Jin Wei.

"I feel there is a silver lining behind [the exit]," Norza told the media on Wednedsday.

"If we look at it in terms of performance, although our women's singles department faced higher ranked players, they showed very good performances.

"But the performances shown by the women's doubles department were quite disappointing.

"It was almost like an experiement that we could see among the players.

"Now they need to look at making stronger combinations and not depending on scratch pairs."
