Kisona eager to learn from new coach Indra Wijaya
National shuttler S. Kisona is looking forward to a productive second half of the year following a coronavirus-interrupted year.

Since winning the SEA Games gold medal seven months ago, the 21-year-old played only two competitive matches and admittedly was frustrated due to her progress being stumped just as a breakthrough year was looming.

However, the Negeri Sembilan lass understood the circumstance was unprecedented, and used the opportunity to work on her game alongside new coach Indra Wijaya.

“Things can happen so unexpectedly in life, and I guess we have to accept this without complaining too much. This delay has given me the opportunity to sharpen my weakness and improve on my strengths,” she told Stadium Astro.

The world number 92 featured both times at the Asia Team Championships in February, and produced one of the upsets of the tournament when she beat Aya Ohori, ranked 19th, in straight games.

After that the COVID-19 pandemic took over and Kisona was homebound with the others, until she was selected as one of the players to spar with the Road To Tokyo team and returned to training in June.

In doing so, Kisona also got to work with Indra, who took over as women’s singles chief from Tey Seu Bock, and she is embracing the opportunity with the Indonesian.

“Coach Indra is good. He understands us, he cares. The confidence he has instilled in me in this short span of time gives me the belief to go far.

“That is the vibe I get from him. For now he is helping us get back our rhythm after being away for so long. He is quite patient with us. I’m just happy to be back training and I am eager to see his ideas and learn from him,” she added.
