Despite the absence of Lee Chong Wei, Malaysia stormed through to the badminton mixed team quarter-finals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games with a convincing 5-0 win over Seychelles on Friday.

The Malaysia No.1 singles shuttler was rested in anticipation of tougher upcoming matches and Goh Soon Huat, who last played as a singles player in September 2016, was picked as his replacement against Kervin Ghislain.

Goh had no problem dispatching his opponent 21-10, 21-5 before returning to the court later with Shevon Lai to win 21-8, 21-4 in the mixed doubles.

Prior to that, Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem grabbed a 21-14, 21-12 win in the men's doubles, while Soniia Cheah and the Vivian Hoo-Chow Mei Kuan pair picked up walkover wins in the women's singles and doubles respectively.

With the win, Malaysia secured their progression to the quarter-finals from Group D alongside Canada, whom they will face later today.

Other quarter-finalists were also confirmed, with India, Scotland, Singapore, Mauritius, England and Australia completing the line-up.
