Malaysian sprinter Khairul Hafiz Jantan signalled his preference to continue training under current coach Poad Kassim.

With the 19-year-old aiming to qualify for next year's Commonwealth Games, there have been suggestions of getting a foreign coach to train him and improve his performance.

Although he did not reject the possibility of being trained by a foreign coach someday, Khairul said he will accept it only if the coach works together with Poad.

"He [Poad] understands me because he is the one who took me from nothing to where I am now. He knows what sort of training I need," he said.

Poad began training the Melaka-born sprinter in 2014 when he was just 15 years old and clocked 12s in the 100m event.

Under his coach's guidance, he broke Malaysian sprinting records for 100m and 200m, and won a gold medal at the 2017 SEA Games.

As for Poad, the decision whether to get foreign expertise for Khairul or not is entirely in the hands of the Malaysian Athletics Federation.

"Regardless of any suggestion, it needs to go through the association. We will discuss the matter soon," he said.

Poad also voiced caution about putting heavy expectations on his young charge.

"At his current age, we do not want to put too much pressure," he added.

"He is still young and we want him to run for 10 more years or so. He will get better with age."
