Despite finishing fifth in their qualifying heat on Friday, Malaysia will be competing in the men's 4x100 relay final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Malaysian quartet of Nixson Kennedy, Jonathan Nyepa, Badrul Hisham Abdul Manap and Khairul Hafiz Jantan clocked 39.39s to finish behind England (38.15s), Jamaica (38.44s), Nigeria (38.52s) and Barbados (38.52s).

Although they finished outside the top three, they still managed to advance to the final alongside Barbados for being the next two fastest in both qualifying heats.

From the other preliminary heat, South Africa (38.71s), Australia (38.78s) and Sri Lanka (39.47s) finished top three to complete the final line-up.

The final is scheduled to take place at 12:40pm (Malaysia time) on Saturday.

For the record, Malaysia's fastest time in men's 4x100m relay is 39.27s, which was set at the 2017 SEA Games.
