Malaysia recurve and compound archers had mixed team debuts to forget at the 2018 Asian Games after crashing out from the Round of 16 on Friday.

Khairul Anuar Mohamad, who almost secured at least a bronze medal in yesterday's individual event, and Nur Aliya Ghapar were unable to replicate their 2017 SEA Games silver medal performance as they were outshot 2-6 by Vietnamese recurve pair Chu Duc Anh and Loc Thi Dao.

Later in the compound event, Juwaidi Mazuki and Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh lost to Singapore's Alan Lee and Contessa Loh 152-153 despite being one of the best performing pairs and finishing fourth in the ranking round.

Falling behind 114-117 after three ends, the Malaysian duo, who won a gold medal together at last year's SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, were unable to turn the game around with a 38-36 score in the final end.

Both mixed team events were contested for the first time since archery was introduced to the Games in 1962.
