It summed up the Malaysian archery squad's struggle in Vietnam so far, with only one silver (mixed recurve team) and three bronze (men's individual recurve, women's individual recurve and men's recurve team) in other events to show.

Only men's individual, women's individual and mixed teams events in the compound category remain for Malaysia to avoid failing to win a SEA Games gold medal for the first time since 2001.
