A last-minute decision will be made whether to allow Lee Zii Jia to compete at the Hylo Open which begins on Tuesday, despite the shuttler’s name being entered for the Super 500 event.

National men’s singles chief Hendrawan hinted the shuttler might be preserved for upcoming tournaments in Bali, Indonesia, after he crashed out in the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open and first round of the French Open.

“We have not made a decision if he will play or not. We will wait to see his condition, as his name has already been entered. If he is ready, he will be expected to go all out,” said Hendrawan.

Lee, who is seeded second, is scheduled to play Spaniard Pablo Abian in the first round.

National coaching director Wong Choong Hann added the All-England champion was still trying to adjust to the demands of playing in two massive tournaments.

“He is learning to not only cope with the physical demands, but also work on his mental strength. Right now we are working with him to get him to perform at an optimum level,” added Wong.

If Lee doesn’t play, he will join doubles pairs Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah to prepare for the Indonesian leg.

Chia-Soh and Swiss Open champs Pearly-Thinaah were not entered for this tournament to keep them fresh for the Indonesia Masters (November 16-21), swiftly followed by the Indonesia Open (November 23-28).

Right after that comes the BWF World Tour Finals, also held in Bali, and national shuttlers who make the cut will head over to Huelva, Spain for the season-finale World Championships (December 12-19).
