Welson Sim was unable to repeat his yesterday's feat of reaching a swimming final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after failing to qualify for the men's 200m freestyle final on Friday.

The 21-year-old Sarawakian, who finished seventh in the men's 400m freestyle final, came in sixth in his heat and 16th overall with a time of 1:53.23s, more than five seconds slower than Stephen Milne, who secured the last spot in the final.

For the record, Sim recorded a national record of 1:47.79s en route to a SEA Games gold medal in the same event last year.

Scotland's Duncan Scott clocked the fastest time with 1:46.62s, while Olympic champion Mack Horton, who won yesterday's men's 400m freestyle final, reached the final with a time of 1:47.89s, the second slowest among the final eight swimmers.
