Tom Johnstone took apart Leeds Rhinos as Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers each recorded big Super League wins on Friday.

Johnstone was at one stage a reported Leeds target but he was in dominant form against his supposed one-time suitors, scoring a quickfire first-half hat-trick in a 35-18 away win.

Ash Handley broke the deadlock for the Rhinos, yet Johnstone scored three times before the hosts troubled the scoreline again with Tom Briscoe's try.

Wakefield maintained control as Kyle Wood soon went over and then Jacob Miller increased the gap further in the second half.

Danny Brough, having kicked superbly throughout, joined in with a try in the last 20 minutes, before Handley and Briscoe both crossed again in the closing stages to at least restore some respectability for Leeds.

Meanwhile, Castleford improved their record to four wins from four at the start of the season, beating Hull KR 32-16.

The Tigers responded well to Mose Masoe's opener as Jordan Rankin, Liam Watts and Greg Eden all went over in the first half.

James Clare scored after the restart and Masoe's second represented only a minor setback for Cas, who scored in quick succession through Eden and Chris Clarkson before Chris Atkin's consolation.
