On 6 December, ONE Championship’s final event of 2019 ended with plenty of martial arts action inside the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Now, nearly three weeks removed from the promotion’s grand finale, it is safe to say the dust has finally settled.

With that in mind, we examine three interesting battles we could see in 2020 for the biggest winners from ONE: MARK OF GREATNESS.

Agilan “Alligator” Thani

Agilan “The Alligator” Thani had to survive an early scare before mounting a late rally to take the victory over promotional newcomer Dante Schiro.

Thani showed tremendous mental resilience to overcome Schiro in their back-and-forth tussle, and after the win, the Kuala Lumpur native moved a step closer to World Title contention.

Brazilian veteran Luis “Sapo” Santos could be the next man to test Thani before he takes the decisive leap towards the ONE Welterweight World Championship.

Santos is a powerful striker and competent grappler, but more importantly, he stands as the last man to have beaten the division’s king, Kiamrian “Brazen” Abbasov.

If the Malaysian can defeat Santos, then the possibility of a shot at the World Title looks promising.

Reece “Lightning” McLaren

Reece “Lightning” McLaren struck fast to return to the winner’s circle with a clinical first-round submission victory over Gurdarshan “Saint Lion” Mangat.

Since he dropped down a weight class, the Australian grappler has become one of the flyweight division’s most elite competitors.

Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio is fresh off a stunning knockout victory on home soil, and a clash between both could set either man up for a run at the World Title.

McLaren’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu prowess against Eustaquio’s formidable wushu skills would make for an interesting match-up.

Andrei “Mister KO” Stoica

Andrei “Mister KO” Stoica made a statement after knocking out Anderson “Braddock” Silva in the opening round of their light heavyweight tilt.

The Romanian striker now has back-to-back wins, and he may have earned his spot as the top contender for Roman Kryklia’s ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Title.

With the biggest prize in the sport on the line, it would be a colossal match-up as Stoica puts his powerful boxing up against the towering might of Kryklia.
