Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk not only earned Fight of the Night recognition in their first bout in March but put on a classic that surely belongs in the UFC Hall of Fame's Fights wing.

In a classic for the ages, Zhang and Jedrzejczyk were left bloodied, battered and exhausted after a gruelling encounter that shocked and enthralled in equal measure.

When the dust had settled, Zhang escaped with her strawweight title still around her waist and the notable scalp of former champion Jedrzejczyk on her fighting resume.

It was a fight so good that many pundits called for an immediate rematch to watch these two awesome athletes go at it once again.

So, we have taken a look at the story so far in the third instalment of our UFC rematches we would love to see series.

WHAT'S THEIR STORY SO FAR?

There was a sense these fighters were on a collision course when Zhang was brought to UFC almost two years ago.

Jedrzejczyk became the women's strawweight champion in March 2015 and defended the belt five times.

After failing to regain the belt from Rose Namajunas, Jedrzejczyk also fell short in her bit to wrest the flyweight title from Valentina Shevchenko.

Zhang won the strawweight title with a first-round knockout of Jessica Andrade in August 2019, and Jedrzejczyk was awarded another shot to once again hold the gold.

The two put on an absolute clinic at UFC 248 in Las Vegas, with an incredible 768 strikes exchanged in a 25-minute slog fest.

In the end it was Zhang who narrowly earned the win and Jedrzejczyk was left with some pretty gruesome facial injuries as a result of a battle for the ages.

WHY DO WE WANT TO SEE THEM GO AGAIN?

Because the first fight was so utterly brilliant and compelling.

It was a bout considered one of the greatest in the history of UFC and choosing a winner was no easy feat. Zhang of course got the call but the likes of Conor McGregor and Shevchenko both felt Jedrzejczyk had done enough to win.

UFC president Dana White is a big fan of Zhang, whose star is undoubtedly on the rise. While there are plenty of other available options the clamour for another showdown with Jedrzejczyk is certainly there.

HAVE THEY FOUGHT SINCE?

No, their first fight only took place a little over two months ago so neither has been in action since their memorable war.

Even had they wanted to, the coronavirus pandemic temporarily shut down operations in UFC and the organisation only returned behind closed doors last weekend.

WILL IT HAPPEN?

In the immediate future, you have to assume no…further down the line there is a possibility.

Jedrzejczyk spoke last month of her desire for a "big-money" rematch sometime in the future, adding that a second bout would mean big bucks for UFC.

But, there has to be a willingness from both sides and right now it appears Zhang's focus is on affording opportunities to other fighters and pursuing new challenges.

WHO WOULD WIN?

Flip a coin on this one folks.

Even the judges could not agree on a unanimous verdict with Zhang retaining her belt via split decision. These two great warriors absolutely pummelled each other the first time around.

Zhang is yet to be beaten in UFC, so perhaps you would have to favour her…but only by the narrowest of margins.
