Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat earned her second professional mixed martial arts win at ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE on Friday, 28 February.

The Haryana native dominated “Miss Red” Wu Chiao Chen over three rounds to claim a unanimous decision victory.

“I felt really good after the win,” Phogat said.

“I’m more confident after this. Whatever I could not do in my last match, I did in this match.

“Overall, I felt better about my performance compared to my previous match.”

Unlike her last performance in November – where she dispatched “Captain Marvel” Nam Hee Kim via TKO in round one – her match with Wu went the distance.

“Whatever game plan for that match I had, it didn’t work,” she said. “It happens sometimes that what you think, might not happen.”

Although she did not manage to secure the knockout, “The Indian Tigress” learned valuable lessons.

She had to adjust to her opponent on the fly without putting herself in any danger.

“The important thing was to win, be it in any way. I am happy that I could control the entire match,” she said.

With Phogat’s latest win pushing her record to 2-0, the Indian wrestling icon’s transition into mixed martial arts has panned out well.

The 25-year-old still wants to become her nation’s first ONE World Champion, and she believes each experience will bring her closer to that objective.

“This was my second step toward my goal in mixed martial arts,” she said. “You learn something from every match, and I have learned a lot from this match.”

Phogat also praised Wu for making the bout such a challenge.

“She gave me a tough match, and this will help me in my future matches,” she said. “I have the utmost respect for all my opponents.”

With her father – legendary wrestler and trainer, Mahavir Singh Phogat – in her corner, “The Indian Tigress” delivered a victory worthy of his praise.

“It felt really great. I was feeling really proud to have him there with me,” she continued.

“The values he taught and imparted to me will stay with me for life, and I believe it will continue to help me grow into the athlete I want to be.”
