The ONE Championship has signed former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Eddie "The Underground King" Alvarez to a multiple-bout contract.

The 34-year-old, who has a 29-6 record, took to Instagram to tell his fans that he was on the way to Asia and that he had his sights set on the ONE World Title.

"We got our contract from ONE FC and we’re all signed up. This couldn’t have went [sic] any smoother. It didn’t take too long, everyone is happy and I’m super excited. The Underground King is coming to ONE," he said.

Following the confirmation, Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, said: "I am thrilled to announce that multiple-time world champion Eddie Alvarez will be joining ONE Championship on a multiple-bout contract.

During his four-year time with the UFC, Alvarez memorably defeated Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight belt in 2016 before losing it to Conor McGregor by TKO at UFC 205.
