Jamal Yusupov May Be Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy’s Biggest Threat Yet

Since becoming the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion, Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academyhas successfully defended his strap twice in the past two and a half months.

Just last Friday, 18 September, he scored a third-round TKO stoppage of Magnus “Crazy Viking” Andersson at ONE: A NEW BREED III with a devastating left hand.

Prior to that, Petchmorakot won a hard-earned unanimous decision over legendary striker “The Boxing Computer” Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex at ONE: NO SURRENDER on 31 July.

He may be dominating the ONE Super Series Muay Thai featherweight division right now, but he should in no way get comfortable because Jamal “Kherow” Yusupov is waiting in the shadows.

The division’s #2-ranked kickboxing featherweight contender will try to do what Petchmorakot’s two previous opponents couldn’t, and the man from Russia has a good chance of making that happen.

Yusupov made his debut in November 2019 at ONE: AGE OF DRAGONS when he accepted a last-minute bout against Yodsanklai.

Surprisingly, “Kherow” knocked Yodsanklai out in the second round of the contest, sending a clear warning to the rest of the featherweights that a new contender was in the division.

That win earned him a shot at Petchmorakot for the inaugural ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title at ONE: WARRIOR’S CODE this past February, but the Russian sustained an injury and had to pull out.

After watching Yusupov knock Yodsanklai out, there’s no question that Petchmorakot has been preparing himself for the inevitable – especially since he himself couldn’t finish “The Boxing Computer.”

Will Yusupov be the man to topple one of the greatest featherweight Muay Thai fighters in ONE Super Series history? Only time will tell.
