Alaverdi “Babyface Killer” Ramazanov made history at ONE: MARK OF GREATNESS on Friday, 6 December, by defeating “Muay Thai Boy” Zhang Chenglong to become the inaugural ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion.

After moving abroad away from family to fully immerse himself in training, the Russian finally achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a World Champion.

“I can’t even describe the feeling when the belt got wrapped around my waist – just a tornado of emotions,” he said.

“I have been working towards this goal – becoming the World Champion – for my entire life. It is incredible that my dream came true.”

Throughout the year, “Babyface Killer” has shown strides of progress and maturation in both his skill set and confidence.

The Dagestani warrior faced notable opposition in a stacked division, taking on both Saemapetch Fairtex and Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy en route to finding success in ONE Super Series.

The 25-year-old shot to stardom after a devastating first-round knockout of Andrew “Maddog Fairtex” Miller last November. At the time, it was the fastest finish in ONE Super Series history.

Ramazanov continued his red hot form by obliterating Lion Fight Muay Thai World Champion Ognjen Topic in August. He dropped the Serbian-American three times on the way to another dominant first-round knockout victory.

Against Zhang, he had to endure a five-round battle with his Chinese rival, but he impressed the judges with his diverse and powerful striking.

Despite becoming the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion, Ramazanov is not content just yet with his sudden success and vows to improve every time he competes.

“I am happy that I am a champion, no doubt. But as for my performance – no one is perfect,” he said.

“I made some mistakes, but I have not had time to watch the fight with my coach yet.”

The man from Dagestan knows that his status as a World Champion will undoubtedly invite challengers, and he welcomes the opportunity to prove to everyone why he belongs at the top of the division.

“Both winning and defending the World Title is hard, let’s be honest. Maybe now I have a different motivation – to remain at the top. But this desire is just as strong as the one I had before I became the World Champion,” he said.

“ONE is packed with great talent, so I will be happy to see any of the top guys. I am the World Champion now, so I can only be challenged by the best. But if you want me to single out just one guy, I would say Nong-O Gaiyanghadao – he has fantastic speed, power, and precision.

“But, I have something Nong-O can’t beat – the Dagestani spirit.”
