After Stephen Curry shot an opening-round 71 Thursday in a Web.com Tour event in California, the sky seemed the limit. Some thought the NBA star might even make the cut in the Ellie Mae Classic, only his second career Web.com tournament.

Reality set in Friday afternoon though, as Curry struggled to a 16-over 86. He finished 154th and last in the field at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, just a few miles from Oracle Arena, where he has seen much happier moments with the Golden State Warriors.

Curry's performance is worse than his score last year, when he shot 74-74 to finish 8-over. Last year, he tied for 148th.

“I had three solid rounds, and then I finally blew up," Curry said afterward (via Kevin Prise of Web.com Tour). “I got a little bit exposed ... if you don’t have the right flow, it’s hard to self-correct.”

Still, remember that Curry, who has a 0 handicap, is an amateur playing among professionals on the PGA's development tour. His playing partner in the first two rounds, Martin Trainer, said Thursday he was impressed with Curry's form.

"His game as a whole was really impressive," Trainer said (via ESPN). "It really surprised me. Obviously, he's not as sharp because I don't think he plays as much as we do."

As the old saying goes, Curry is not about to quit his day job, where the two-time NBA MVP will be looking to help the Warriors win a third straight championship this season.
