Malaysia booked their place in the 2018 AFF U-19 Youth Championship final after overcoming hosts Indonesia in the semi-finals on Thursday, but the match was marred by crowd trouble.

Certain quarters of Indonesia fans at the Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo reacted angrily to the defeat and were seen hurling missiles at the Malaysia players after the final whistle, but no injuries were reported.

Malaysia, who have never finished as winners of the competition, had reached the semi-finals after topping Group B with three wins and one draw from four matches.

Indonesia went in front after just two minutes with Egy Maulana Vikri converting from the penalty spot, but Bojan Hodak's side equalised in the 14th minute through Syaiful Alias' header from a corner kick.

With nothing separating both sides after 90 minutes, the match headed straight to a penalty shoot-out, in which the young Tigers emerged victorious 3-2.

The victory ensured Malaysia's second consecutive final appearance at the tournament, where they will face Myanmar, who defeated defending champions Thailand 1-0 in the other semi-final match.

The final will take place on Saturday.
