Danial Amier Norhisham did not want to take credit after his goal against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday night sealed Malaysia's passage into the quarter-finals of the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship.
The Felda United midfielder put Ong Kim Swee's team in front in the 27th minute at the Kunshan Stadium, China, to secure a 1-0 win in the final Group C match.
Despite the significance of his goal, he remained humble about it.
"I did not expect [to score that goal because] everyone knows I was not part of the starting line-up previously," Danial told Astro Arena.
"Thankfully whenever I get a playing opportunity, I always give my best for the team."
He also urged his team-mates to stay focused for their upcoming quarter-final match, in which their opponents will be confirmed later today, on January 20.
"We cannot get carried away," he added.
"We only gave our best and we will do better. We must double our efforts [for the next game]."
