Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam would be open to returning to Old Trafford in any capacity.

The 47-year-old, who played for the Red Devils from 1998 to 2001, was recently in Malaysia as an Astro Supersport pundit.

During a Sub-prise! segment with a United fan, he was asked if he saw himself back at the club.

"Next year I'm going to manage the club," the former defender joked before admitting his desire to work with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.

"I would love to work for them in whatever role [they see fit].

"Sometimes I go back and watch the games and see the people I have worked with. I'm still well connected to the club."

Since retiring in 2007, Stam took on coaching and managerial roles at Jong Ajax, Reading, PEC Zwolle and, most recently, Feyenoord.
