The Wizards have officially hired a general manager.

They have removed the interim tag from Tommy Sheppard and named him to the permanent position of GM, according to the Washington Post.

Sheppard will now take over the team's draft responsibilities as well as trades, communication with players’ representatives and working with coach Scott Brooks and his staff, according to the report.

He was named the interim GM when Ernie Grunfeld was fired in April after 16 seasons in the position.

Washington finished a disappointing 32-50 last year, but hope a changing of the guard in the front office can have a positive effect on the team down the road.

The Wizards have to make a decision in the coming weeks as to whether or not to give Bradley Beal a contract extension or to trade him.

That will be one of the first big moves Sheppard will be responsible for making.

The Heat reportedly have interest in Beal and also would be willing to take on John Wall's contract.

Wall ruptured his Achilles last season and it is unclear if he will be play in 2019-20.
