The Mavericks have spoken with the Clippers about the possibility of acquiring center DeAndre Jordan in a trade, according to the New York Times.
This comes on the heels of Jordan asking the Clippers to explore trade scenarios to get a better idea of if he wants to opt into the final year of his contract, or become a free agent.
If Jordan were to opt into his contract, the Clippers would be able to trade him to the team they saw fit and get something in return for one year of control. This is what Los Angeles did with Chris Paul last season when they sent him to the Rockets.
The Mavericks, of course, agreed to a deal in principle with Jordan in 2015 before the Clippers allegedly cordoned off the center and kept him from signing with Dallas so he could stay in Los Angeles.
Dallas would love to get a hold of Jordan, and it would appear the team also has their minds set on dealing veteran guard Wesley Matthews to get the 7-footer, according to the Times.
Jordan has until 11:59 p.m. ET Friday to decide whether he wants to opt in or become a free agent. The 29-year-old is a native of Houston.
He has averaged 9.4 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 10 NBA seasons.
