It appears Dirk Nowitzki will stay in Dallas next season.

A day after the Mavericks declined Nowitzki's $5 million team option to create additional salary-cap space in pursuit of DeAndre Jordan, Dallas is expected to re-sign Nowitzki with the remaining $5 million of cap space, Yahoo Sports reports.

Dallas landed Jordan on Sunday with a one-year contract and he's set to make nearly $24.1 million during the 2018-19 season. Now the expectation is the Mavs will reach an agreement with Nowitzki.

This means the 40-year-old Nowitzki will return for his 21st season in Dallas. ESPN notes he is poised to set an NBA record for the longest career spent with only one team, surpassing Kobe Bryant as the only other player in NBA history to spend a 20-year career with one NBA team.

Nowitzki, a 13-time All-Star who has won an MVP and NBA Finals MVP, averaged 12 points with 5.7 rebounds in the 77 games he played last season. He's sixth on the NBA's career scoring list.
