For NBA fans tired of hearing all the Anthony Davis trade and free agency rumors, you’re not alone — Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry is sick of hearing them, too.

After the Pelicans defeated the Thunder 131-122 Thursday night, Gentry was happy for his players, and lauded them for enduring all the speculation about Davis and his future.

“I’m happy for all of them. To tell you the truth, this whole thing has been a dumpster fire,” Gentry said (via the Times-Picayune).

“It’s just hard, you know, we want guys to be professional and do this, but it’s hard for guys to go through what they’ve been through. To be able to come out and beat a team of that quality, I’m happy for all the guys. I thought that they did a great job.”

Davis left the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury and did not return. After an MRI, he was diagnosed with a muscle contusion, and his status is considered day-to-day.

When asked about Davis exiting the game, Gentry replied simply, “I’m happy for the guys that played the game and we won.”

When asked to elaborate on Davis leaving, Gentry said, “Hey guys, I’m going to talk about the guys that played. They did a great job. We found a way to win the game. That’s what’s important.”

Gentry then promptly ended the media conference.

The Pelicans originally planned to sit Davis for the rest of the season after failing to trade him by the Feb. 7 deadline. But the NBA intervened, a spokesperson said, telling the Pelicans to play him because, “League rules governing competitive integrity … require that he be permitted to play."
