Kento Momota's former junior coach. Izuan Ibrahim, who was due to start work with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) next week, passed away on Monday.
Izuan had complained of having headache and was admitted at the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia hospital in Kubang Kerian since December 19.
He later underwent surgery to remove a blood clot in the brain after being diagnosed with intracranial bleeding.
The 35-year-old never regained consciousness despite surgery and took his last breath on Monday.
Kelantan Badminton Association president Dr Naharuddin Hashim described Izuan’s death as sudden and a huge loss to the badminton world.
Izuan was due to begin work with BAM as a junior coach.
The late coach rose to prominence after Japan lifted their maiden Thomas Cup in 2014, as it became known he used to tutor Momota when the world number one was a teenager.
Izuan was buried at the Kampung Banggol Muslim Cemetery in Kelantan late Monday night.
He is survived by his wife Siti Marsyhtah Muhammad and three children.
Any contributions to Izuan’s family can be made through Siti’s bank account (Maybank 116015011016 – Siti Marsytah Binti Muhammad).
