Ong-Teo downed Chinese duo Huang Kai Xiang-Liu Cheng 18-21, 21-17, 21-17 in 72 minutes to clinch their maiden title on the BWF World Tour circuit, which was also Malaysia's first of the year.
Victory was significant for the pair especially after they were dropped by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) a month ago.
Wong said Ong and Teo were always capable of rising to the occasion.
"It was good to see that passion and fire to win in them. Even though they were dropped from the BAM, we still believed in them and hence why we included their names for the Thailand Masters.
"Sometimes when you are on your own, you tend to develop these qualities. It’s a good win for them and I am happy for their success," the BAM coaching director told Stadium Astro.
He was also impressed with how Ong-Teo overcame the Chinese pair who had been in dominant form ahead of the final.
"They managed to find a flaw in their opponents and used it to their advantage. Reading and understanding your opponent is crucial, even more so in a final," he added.
The duo will get the opportunity to further impress as they are also included for the Asia Team Championships 2020, which is scheduled to take place in Manila, the Philippines, from February 11-16.
The tournament will also serve as Asian qualifiers for the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup in Denmark this May.
