Even if Malaysian badminton fans did not get enough of watching local shuttlers strut their stuff this year, they should be relishing the opportunity to catch Lee Chong Wei in action again.

The former world number one is set to take part in a brand new badminton concept called the Mix & Match Badminton Challenge, which is a series of team-based exhibition matches across eight countries.

It is hosted by Japan Yonex under the ‘Legends Vision’ banner, in which Lee is an ambassador along with other retired legends like China’s Lin Dan, Denmark’s Peter Gade and Indonesian Taufik Hidayat.

"The organisers are in the midst of planning the event but it all depends if the conditional movement control order will be lifted.

"If everything goes according to plan, I will participate for sure. My wife [former shuttler Wong Mew Choo] would most probably tag along too," he told The Star.

World number 14 pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong are also slated to participate in the event, and there could be several junior shuttlers in the mix as well.

The event will pit two teams comprising of two captains, one of whom will be Lee. They will pick five other shuttlers to form a six-member team to play out a format of two singles and three doubles.

Japanese ace Kento Momota already kicked off this event in Japan last week.

Yong-dae will be next in action against his former partner Yoo Yeon-seong this Saturday, before the series moves on to Indonesia, China, India, Taiwan and Denmark.

The event in Malaysia is a closed door affair, but it will be aired live on Yonex Malaysia's Facebook page.
