Just like how the popular superheroes franchise ended, the Avengers emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle. Not against Thanos to save the world, but a 6-5 victory over the Terminators in a friendly badminton battle.

The three-day Mixed Team Championships event organised by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) came to an end on Wednesday, and it was all smiles for the Avengers team led by Soh Wooi Yik.

The Terminators took the lead through women’s doubles Chow Mei Kuan-Pearly Tan who beat Myisha Khairul-Valeree Siow 15-8, 15-6.

But Goh Soon Huat-Cheah Yee See drew level after the mixed doubles pair overcame Chen Tang Jie-Lai Pei Jing 15-13, 15-12, before Lee Zii Jia restored the Terminators lead with a 15-13, 15-11 win over Jacky Kok.

Soh led by example to drag the tie level a second time, as he and Chia Wei Jie ousted Goh Sze Fei-Low Hang Yee 13-15, 15-10, 11-6.

Cheam June Wei and Eoon Qi Xuan both won their matches to give Avengers a 4-2 lead, before women’s singles Goh Jin Wei increased the advantage to 5-3.

The Terminators fought gallantly to draw level through mixed doubles Muhd Haikal-Low Yeen Yuan and women’s trio of Chow Mei Kuan-Pei Jing-Pearly, but the Avengers men’s trio of Soh-Chia-Tee Kai Wun combined to deliver the winning point.

In another tie, the Transformers beat the Dominators 7-4.

This tournament was an effort to give the juniors a chance to provide competition for the seniors, and the likes of Eoon, Justin Hoh, Kok and Lee Shun Yang did well to impress.

The next internal affair is likely to be the National Championships sometime next month.

Most of the top national shuttlers are preparing to compete at the Asian Tour to be held in Bangkok in January, which will comprise of two Thailand Open tournaments, followed by the backdated World Tour Finals.
