Malaysian artistic gymnast Jeremiah Loo was unable to make it to the men's individual all-around final at the 2020 Olympic Games after recording 67.498 points in the first subdivision qualifying on Saturday.

The 23-year-old, who was the first Malaysian male gymnast to qualify for the Olympics since Ng Shu Wai in 2004, had a decent outing on most of the apparatus but unfortunately picked up a four-point penalty on the rings.

He ended the morning session at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo in the 19th spot — there were two more subdivision rounds and only 24 highest scoring athletes go through to the men's final on Wednesday.

Jeremiah's hopes were dashed halfway through the afternoon session, with several gymnasts nudging him out of the top 24.

ROC's Nikita Nagornyy (87.897) as well as Chinese gymnasts Xiao Ruoteng (87.732) and Sun Wei (87.298) lead the men's qualifying standings at the time of writing.
