Chou Tien-chen and Goh Jin Wei, two of the biggest stars in this year's Malaysia Purple League, helped Ampang Jaya Badminton Club (AJBC) to a comfortable 14-5 victory over the Candra Wijaya International Badminton Centre (CWIBC) on Monday.

World number four Chou sealed the win for AJBC after a clinical 11-5, 11-4, 11-8 victory over Indonesian veteran Tommy Sugiarto in the final match.

This was Chou’s second win in the Purple League, having beaten another veteran in Brice Leverdez of France on Saturday.

He couldn’t help AJBC win that tie against Petaling Badminton Club (PBC), but with an-form Goh Jin Wei coming in as reinforcement, the Malaysian club were a class above the all-Indonesian CWIBC.

Goh, who reached the Vietnam Open final on Sunday, levelled the scores at 1-1 in the second match after a 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 victory over Ruselli Hartawan.

Moh Reza-Sabar Karyaman made it 2-1 with a three game victory over Gabriel Christopher-Ricky Karandasuwardi, before Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai beat Hafiz Faizal-Serena Kani 11-9, 11-8, 10-11, 11-5.

PBC earned their second win of the tournament after a 15-3 success over Singapore Badminton Team.

Paralympics gold medallist Cheah Liek Hou, playing as the first men’s singles, won the first point for PBC, before Goh V Shem-Low Juan Shen dan Ng Eng Cheong-Lai Pei Jing delivered their points in comfortable fashion.

This year’s Purple League is made up of two groups of four teams, with the top two of each group advancing to the knockout stage.
