Malaysian shooter Johnathan Wong successfully buried his 2019 SEA Games ghosts after winning a gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol final in Vietnam.

The 29-year-old, who won the event as well as bagged a men's 50m pistol silver medal at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, fired blank and finished fourth three years ago despite being a medal favourite.

This time in Hanoi, Wong recorded 238.6 points to recapture his gold medal, finishing narrowly ahead of Vietnam's Tran Quoc Cuong (236.6 points), who was the 2015 winner.

M. Prabowo of Indonesia joined them on the podium with 214.2 points.

It was Malaysia's third medal in shooting events this year after Hafiz Adzha and Alia Sazana Azahari clinched silver medals in 25m rapid fire pistol and 25m sports pistol events respectively.
